Woven, medium to thin fabrics work well for this recipe (eg cotton, linen or light wool for beginners). The next person may like to try thinner fabrics that are more "living", such as e.g. silk or viscose.
Fabric choice for the garments in the picture:
The gray and floral bow has thin wool on one side and a wool and silk blend on the other.
